The Southern Women Empowerment Forum (SWEF) has called on the government to expand economic opportunities for women and promote their active participation in decision-making processes at all levels, driving meaningful societal change.

Dr. Helen Adebakin, President of SWEF, made this assertion on Saturday during the inauguration of the Enugu State Chapter’s State and Local Government Executives and the empowerment of ten women.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Adebakin thanked His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba, Executive Governor of Enugu State, for his visionary leadership and unwavering support for women’s empowerment initiatives. “Your progressive outlook sets a commendable example for others across the nation,” she added.

Dr. Adebakin reiterated SWEF’s commitment to investing in women and accelerating progress towards a more equitable and sustainable future. She encouraged participants to actively engage in discussions, sharing their valuable insights and recommendations.

She emphasized the importance of building bridges and empowering women, highlighting the need for reflective actions to identify key focus areas for creating a brighter future for Nigerian women.

“SWEF is dedicated to uplifting and empowering women in the southern region, enabling them to achieve their full potential and contribute to the development of their communities,” she said.

“We envision a future where women are active participants in decision-making processes, have access to quality education and healthcare, and are free from all forms of discrimination and violence,” Dr. Adebakin continued.

“As we look forward to continuing our work here, we are deeply encouraged by the partnership and support we have found in Enugu State. We are excited about the future and the valuable contributions we will collectively make towards a more inclusive and empowered community,” she concluded.
