In a momentous event, the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) recognized the exceptional leadership of Prof Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, with the highly coveted “NAPS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AWARD (NOLA).” This accolade celebrates the Rector’s outstanding administrative prowess, which has led to the all-round growth of the institution, student-friendly policies, groundbreaking contributions to technological education in Nigeria and across Africa, and unwavering dedication to mentorship.
With gratitude, Prof Biri expressed his appreciation to the NAPS leadership for this rare honor. He dedicated the award to all Nigerian students, particularly those who aspire to pursue formal education but lack the means. Additionally, he urged students who have not yet paid their service charges to fulfill their obligations legally and responsibly.
In an act of exceptional generosity, the Rector unveiled scholarships for twelve deserving students at the Polytechnic. The selection process will be coordinated by the Student Union Government (SUG), NAPS, and the Dean of Students’ Affairs. The scholarships will be awarded to two students from the Higher National Diploma (HND) level and two from the National Diploma (ND) level, with Prof Biri personally funding their educational expenses from his own salary.
Furthermore, Prof Biri announced that under his administration, fifteen students from Oghara, the indigenous community, studying at the Polytechnic, will be granted scholarships each year by the institution’s management. This initiative underscores the Rector’s commitment to empowering local talent and ensuring their educational aspirations are supported by the school’s administration.
Notably, the Polytechnic Registrar, Mr. Efedi Chukwuemke, and the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Samuel Enudi, were also honored with prestigious NAPS awards in recognition of their valuable contributions to the institution’s growth and the well-being of its students.
