The Ejiro & Otive Igbuzor Foundation proudly announces the 17th edition of the Chief Demas Akpore Memorial Lecture, a celebration of the enduring legacy of one of Nigeria’s most illustrious leaders. The lecture, themed “The Ideas and Philosophy of Chief Demas Akpore,” will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Government College, Ughelli, Delta State.
According to a release signed by the Foundation’s Executive Director, Mr. Monday Osasah, FSM, this year’s lecture is especially significant as two of the late sage’s children—Chief Jomo Akpore and Mrs. Stella Omu—will feature as keynote speaker and discussant, respectively.
In a related development, this event coincides with a solemn moment for the Abobo and Akpore families as they prepare to lay to rest Chief Mrs. Grace Temisan Akpore, the matriarch of the Chief Demas Akpore dynasty, who passed away at 95 on August 29, 2024, in Galesburg, Illinois. Her burial will be held in her hometown, Otovwodo Agbarha-Ame Kingdom (Agbasa), Warri, Delta State, Nigeria on Friday, January 31, 2025.
The lecture will feature Distinguished Senator Ede Dafinone as the Special Guest of Honour, with Chief Jomo Akpore delivering the keynote address. Chief Dr. Ominimini Obiuvwevwi will chair the event, which will include a panel of distinguished discussants: Mrs. Stella Omu, Okorokporo-Obaseki Mercy, and Barr. Felix Akpobaro. Dr. Achugbue Edwin and Ms. Nefertiti Ayo Okotie will serve as Masters of Ceremony.
The Foundation invites the public to attend this landmark event, which will pay tribute to Chief Demas Akpore’s transformative ideals and philosophy while also honouring the life and legacy of Chief Grace Temisan Akpore.
