In a significant development, following the recommendation of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building and Council, the Delta State Government has decided to establish a caretaker committee to manage the affairs of the Union of Udu Communities (UUC) pending the organization of fresh elections.
This decision was made known by Chief Okrika Austin Akpotu Emaduku, MNIM, FHNR, FCPA, the immediate past President General of the Union of Udu Communities during a world press conference held at his Egini country home on Monday 5th August 2024 to address the ongoing crises within the UUC.
In his address, titled “It Seemed Impossible, But Together We Did It,” Emaduku expressed his acceptance of the government’s decision and reflected on his tenure as the President General of the UUC. He praised the support and resilience of the Udu people, emphasizing the unity and growth achieved during his leadership.
Olorogun Emaduku highlighted his administration’s accomplishments, noting the commendations received during the 2024 Udu Annual Conference and the plans for new landmark projects that were set in motion. However, he acknowledged the necessity of stepping aside to allow for the formation of an interim committee, as directed by the state government.
“I have accepted this decision in good faith, knowing that the interest of our people is paramount,” Emaduku stated.
He assured the Udu community of his continued commitment to their cause and expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support during his tenure.
Emaduku also commended the Udu leaders who stood for truth and urged the community to uphold the founding ideals of the UUC. He called for efforts to ensure the UUC’s continued existence is built on the will of the people and expressed hope for fresh perspectives and ideas from future leaders.
Concluding his address, Olorogun Emaduku extended his appreciation to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori for his decisive action in addressing the situation, which aligns with the Enhanced Peace and Security component of his MORE Agenda, pledging his support for the Governor’s initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and harmony in the state.
The high point of the press conference was the passing of a vote of confidence by the executive of the Union of Udu Communities which comprises the men, Emete, Eghweya, and youths on Olorogun Austin Emaduku on his stewardship and leadership of Udu for the past year and an appeal for him to make himself available to contest as the President General, pledging to stand by him when the time comes.
