In a landmark decision, leaders of the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) convened in Abuja a few weeks ago to unanimously endorse a homecoming celebration in honor of the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, His Excellency, Most Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR. This tribute recognizes his remarkable achievements during his tenure in office.
The pivotal meeting, co-chaired by Senator Ede Dafinone and Senator Joel Onowakpo representing Delta Central and Delta South Senatorial Districts respectively in the 10th Senate, also saw the inclusion of the “Oracle of Politics”, Most Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, as a Co-chair of the Organising Committee.
To ensure a befitting acknowledgment of Senator Omo-Agege’s impactful leadership, the Organising Committee promptly constituted six functional subcommittees, including an Advisory Committee comprising eminent and senior Deltans. The grand event is slated for the 6th of April, 2024, at the Oil City Motel in Ughelli Town, promising an assembly of distinguished personalities from the realms of politics and public governance.
Senator Omo-Agege’s stellar legislative accomplishments are undeniably commendable, transcending partisan lines and earning the respect even of his critics. Despite joining the Senate a year later than his peers in 2016, Omo-Agege emerged as one of the highest sponsors of bills and motions. Notably, he pioneered the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) Establishment Act, elevating the institution to a ‘strategic national asset’ within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Building on this momentum, the Obarisi of Urhoboland championed the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic Orogun (FEPO), leveraging his rapport with former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, to secure its approval and subsequent construction. Additionally, Senator Omo-Agege’s foresight led to the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, further cementing his legacy of productive and visionary leadership.
Beyond legislative accomplishments, Senator Omo-Agege’s commitment to infrastructural development and human capital enhancement has left an indelible mark across Delta’s three senatorial districts. His resourceful and innovative approach to public governance has catalyzed positive transformations in numerous communities, earning him the reputation of a “noiseless helper” of the people.
Furthermore, Senator Omo-Agege’s politics of inclusion has significantly bolstered the electoral and appointive fortunes of the APC in Delta State. His populist leadership style resonated with the electorate, evident from the overwhelming support garnered during his gubernatorial campaign in the last general elections.
In light of these remarkable achievements and more, the forthcoming homecoming celebration in honor of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is both timely and well-deserved.
The Organising Committee, under the leadership of Sir Sunny Areh, Co-Chairman of the Media Committee, fervently urges people from all walks of life to participate actively in this historic occasion, celebrating a leader par excellence and his sterling contributions to public service.
