The council elections held in Imodje Orogun Unit 1, DSIEC Ward 6, Orogun, Ughelli North LGA of Delta State, were described as free, fair, and credible by High Chief Emmanuel Ogobene (JP).
Despite heavy rain throughout the day, voters in Imodje turned out in significant numbers to cast their ballots.
Speaking to Oghwoghwa Reporters immediately after voting, Chief Ogobene remarked, “This is Imodje. Heavy rain has been on since morning. It has been very terrible. You can see me with an umbrella and rain boots, but because of the importance of these elections to us, we all gathered here in Imodje. In fact, this is one of the freest and fairest elections I have come across in the local government.”
Expressing his optimism about the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) securing victory, Chief Ogobene stated, “I am very hopeful that the way the votes were cast, PDP will sail through and Chief Jaro Egbo and Okiemute Goddey Igogono will be declared the winners of the Chairmanship and Councillorship, respectively. The election was well organized, peaceful, and a brotherly affair.”
Chief Ogobene, who is a member of the Delta State Peace Building and Advisory Council, praised the administration of RT. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, highlighting the government’s commitment to a transparent electoral process.
“I told Deltans that the government of RT. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori is a straightforward government. I told PDP, APC, and LP to come out and vote. Some doubted that there would be no materials, but there were materials all over the place. It was conducted the way elections are supposed to be conducted. It was peaceful. We campaigned round all the Wards and Units, saw all the traditional rulers, but none of the others were anywhere to be found. How do you expect such people to win?” he queried.
The elections, despite the challenging weather conditions, were marked by significant voter turnout and a commendable level of organization and peaceful conduct.
