Orogun Town, Delta State – In a continued effort to brighten the lives of Orogun residents, the Onotu-Uku (Traditional Prime Minister) of Orogun, Chief Do-Good O. Efe-Nogo (JP), has once again demonstrated his commitment to the community by spearheading the installation of twenty (20) additional solar-powered street lights along Ikorobie Street in Orogun Town, Ughelli North LGA, Delta State.

The installation, carried out on Wednesday, 28th August 2024, is part of the ongoing ‘Light Up Orogun Campaign,’ aimed at enhancing security and promoting development within the town.

This latest initiative follows the earlier donation of ten (10) solar-powered lights by the Chief Do-Good Efe-Nogo Foundation to Orogun Grammar School (OGSO) on 20th July 2022, in memory of the late Bigman Efe-Nogo, his beloved sibling known for his discipline, service, and compassion.

In his remarks during the inauguration of the new project, Chief Efe-Nogo shared with Oghwoghwa Reporters the significance of the earlier donation to OGSO: “This project is meaningful in many ways, but most importantly, it keeps alive the treasured memories of Bigman Efe-Nogo and all he stood for—discipline, service, and compassion. As the saying goes, ‘those who have left us do not necessarily depart from us—they stay in our hearts—and it’s nice to do something charitable to remember them.'”

Chief Efe-Nogo further emphasized the importance of providing solutions rather than lamenting challenges: “You don’t bemoan about or curse darkness; rather, you provide light to dispel darkness. In Genesis, God saw a need and addressed the need by saying, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. This is our own modest way of walking in the image of God.”

The ‘Light Up Orogun Campaign’ aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, and Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. By ensuring the availability of reliable and sustainable energy solutions, the campaign not only contributes to community safety but also nurtures an environment conducive to social and economic activities.

In an interview with Oghwoghwa Reporters, Hon. Benedict Kaine, a resident of Ikorobie Street, expressed his gratitude for the solar light installation. “We are deeply grateful to Chief Efe-Nogo for his unwavering commitment to our community. His philanthropic acts have proven that Orogun made the right choice in appointing him Onotu-Uku. These solar lights significantly enhance safety and security in our neighborhood, especially at night, while also providing students with the opportunity to study after dark. We thank Chief Efe-Nogo for his ongoing dedication to Orogun development.”

While there is an urgent need to permanently address the perennial power outage in Orogun, Chief Efe-Nogo’s efforts continue to serve as an inspiration to others, highlighting the power of individual and collective actions in advancing the development and well-being of local communities.
