The Wanogho Royal family and the entire Orogun community are in mourning following the death of Chief Columbus Nikita Okah Wanogho, who passed away at the age of 94 in the early hours of Monday, 27th May 2024, at his residence, after a protracted illness.
According to a release signed by Sir Ochuko N. Wanogho, Chief Wanogho, known for his profound wisdom, humility, and dedication to community service, was a revered chief in Orogun. His passing marks the end of an era for the Wanogho family and the wider community who regarded him as a patriarch, mentor, and a beacon of inspiration.
Chief Columbus Nikita Okah Wanogho was a man of exceptional character. He was known for his loving and kind-hearted nature, always guiding those around him with love and patience. His generosity and receptiveness were legendary, and he was known for his ability to solve problems without discrimination. His cheerful and jovial personality brought joy to many, and his integrity was never in doubt.
Though trained as a geographer, Chief Wanogho was also a repository of local history and tradition. He had a great love for books and education, and his passion for learning was evident when he pursued a degree at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, even in his later years. He combined his love for teaching with farming, embodying a life of continuous growth and service.
Chief Wanogho’s contributions to his community extended beyond his professional life. After retiring from his academic pursuits, he served as the pioneer President of the Orogun Customary Court for two terms, where he was lauded for his fairness and dedication to justice. A strong believer in traditional customs, he was a respected community leader and a man of goodwill.
As the Esuo of Orogun Kingdom and the head of the Wanogho dynasty, Chief Wanogho’s legacy is deeply rooted in his family’s history. He was the son of HRH Wanogho Afunjuenya, Okpara-Uku of Orogun (1964-1971). His life and work have left an indelible mark on his family and the community, who will continue to honour his memory.
Chief Columbus Nikita Okah Wanogho leaves a legacy of wisdom, integrity, and service. He will be remembered not only as a patriarch but also as a father to all who knew him. The Wanogho family asks for prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul and for God’s grace to grant him eternal rest as they prepare for a befitting funeral for their beloved patriarch who lived a worthy life.
