A few days after President Biden announced his decision to end his reelection campaign and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Nakiim Bey, President and Founder of the African and Middle-East Economic Sustainability Alliance (AMEESA) based in New York, has rallied support for Harris.
On Tuesday, in New York, Dr. Bey stated that electing Kamala Harris would significantly benefit the protection of human rights laws in the United States, calling her a staunch advocate for human rights.
Dr. Bey highlighted Harris’s strong record in advocating for human rights and social justice, emphasizing her commitment to ensuring that every voice is heard and respected. He praised her efforts in promoting policies aimed at unifying the nation and fostering an inclusive society that celebrates and protects diversity.
“As a dedicated supporter of women’s rights, Kamala Harris is committed to expanding access to reproductive healthcare and ensuring women have control over their own bodies,” Dr. Bey remarked.
He also underscored Harris’s commitment to addressing climate change and protecting the environment, which he believes will contribute to a sustainable future for all.
In contrast, Dr. Bey, who also serves as Chairman of the International Human Rights Commission IHRC-U.S.A. Regional, criticized the potential consequences of a Trump presidency on human rights. He recalled that Trump’s previous term was marked by policies that were widely criticized for infringing on human rights and freedoms.
“The rhetoric and policies during Trump’s administration often increased polarization and division within our society, with efforts to restrict access to reproductive healthcare and undermine protections for women’s health,” Dr. Bey noted.
He further criticized Trump’s controversial stance on climate change and environmental protection, which could impact future sustainability efforts.
Dr. Bey urged African countries affiliated with the International Human Rights Commission USA Regional and AMEESA to actively prepare to vote in the upcoming national election. He emphasized that Kamala Harris would be the first Black woman and first Asian American to lead the ticket of a major political party in the United States if selected by the Democratic National Committee.
