Chief Barr. E.T. Opone, President General of Orogun Kingdom, was formally inducted into the Forum of Presidents General of the 24 Urhobo Kingdoms on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the Forum’s National Secretariat, Uvwie Hall. The ceremony marked a milestone in his leadership, following his succession to Chief Bar. Benson Ndakara and meeting all induction requirements.
The event was graced by the Forum’s Chairman, Chief Monday Arawore, President General of the Uvwie General Improvement Union (UGIU); Chief Abovi Hope Erute; and Rev. Canon David Otofia, President General of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, among others.
During the ceremony, Chief Opone was warmly welcomed into the Forum, which serves as a unifying body for the leadership of Urhobo Kingdoms, fostering collaboration and promoting the collective interest of the Urhobo people.
Speaking at the event, Chief Monday Arawore prayed for and commended Chief Opone for his commitment to the development of Orogun Kingdom and his contributions to the advancement of the Urhobo Nation. “Chief Opone’s induction into this prestigious Forum is a testament to his dedication and leadership,” Arawore stated.
Chief Opone, in his response, expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged to work closely with other members of the Forum to strengthen unity among the Urhobo Kingdoms. “This induction is not just an honour for me but a call to greater service for the Urhobo people,” he said.
The Forum of President Generals plays a pivotal role in addressing developmental challenges, fostering peace, and advocating for the interests of the Urhobo Nation both locally and internationally. Chief Opone’s inclusion is expected to bring fresh perspectives and bolster the Forum’s mission.
The event concluded with a commitment from all present to continue working toward the growth and unity of the Urhobo Nation.
