Hon. Sylvester Ovbije, the Honourable Commissioner representing Ughelli North, Ethiope East, and Urhobos in Patani LGAs on the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), recently inspected a transformative project at Orogun Market. This project, featuring modern facilities such as a water system, solar power, toilets, bathrooms, and urinals, was spearheaded by Hon. Ovbije to support His Excellency’s M.O.R.E Agenda and aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Hon. Ovbije’s initiative directly supports SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) by ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation facilities in the market. The inclusion of solar power also aligns with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), promoting the use of renewable energy sources. By improving the infrastructure of Orogun Market, the project contributes to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), enhancing the economic opportunities for market women and traders in Orogun Town and its environs.
Expressing his gratitude, Hon. Ovbije stated, “I appreciate my father and mentor, the Delta State Governor, Rt Hon (Elder) Sherif F. O. Oborevwori, for giving me the opportunity to serve the good people of my Mandate Area. I will continue to support His Excellency’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which stands for Meaningful development, Opportunity for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security in my Mandate Area and the State.”
He also praised the site engineer for ensuring the project’s quality meets his high standards and expectations. “I thank the engineer on site for delivering a quality project that matches the proposed and expected standards,” Hon. Ovbije added.
Pst Goodluck Unuavworo, the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Special Duties, commended Hon. Ovbije for his dedication to improving the lives of his constituents. He also encouraged the workers on site to maintain the high standards set by the Commissioner, ensuring the project’s success for the benefit of the community.
The Orogun Market project is a testament to Hon. Ovbije’s commitment to providing meaningful development and opportunities for the people of his Mandate Area. By improving the market’s infrastructure, he aims to create a more conducive environment for trade, thereby boosting the local economy and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Orogun Town and surrounding areas.
