Eighteen LGA Chairmen and five State Exco members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) across eighteen local government areas of Delta State and their teaming supporters have decamped to Action Peoples Party (APP) on Tuesday 9th January 2024
Announcing their resignation from the SDP at a news conference on Tuesday in Asaba, they said they joined the APP due to the type of purposeful leadership that has been provided by Chief Efe Tobor Josiah, who doubles as the State Chairman of APP and Executive Assistant (EA) to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Franci O. Oborevwori on Inter-Party Relations.
Hon. Eniye Matthew Sawacha Jr, a former Vice Chairman of SDP, Speaker of SDP Candidates in 2019, and two-time candidate for House of Assembly, Burutu North Constituency, who led the decampees stated that “there is no longer anything in SDP. We are transitioning to APP due to the integrity, character, and political influence demonstrated by the State Chairman, Chief Efe Tobor. We fully endorse the M.O.R.E Agenda of the Delta State government, skillfully directed by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Franci O. Oborevwori. We have disassociated ourselves from the SDP under the leadership of Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi. This marks just the beginning; more individuals will join us,” he emphasized.
Chief Efe Tobor Josiah, who was a former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Inter-Party Affairs to the ex-governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, welcomed the decampees with open arms. Among them are esteemed figures like former State Secretary of SDP, Pastor Highness Akporode, former Vice Chairman, Delta North, former Publicity Secretary, Comrade George Onyindo, and former Assistant Youth Leader, Comrade Edirin Okene Victor, showcasing their commitment to the Action Peoples Party. Their courageous choice was praised, with Chief Tobor assuring them of a rewarding journey ahead and a promise that no one would be overlooked within the party.
This gathering marks a collective pledge from the decampees to collaborate with the governor in propelling Delta State toward greater heights. Their dedication and unity are the pillars that will steer the State’s shared vision for progress.
